Davanagere (Karnataka): A BJP leader, reportedly distressed by a family dispute, died by suicide on Sunday after setting his car on fire near Naganur in Davanagere taluk. The deceased has been identified as Chandrashekhar Sankol, a former member of the municipal corporation.
It is reported that there was a commotion at his home on Saturday. During this time, it was learned that Chandrashekhar’s two children attempted suicide. Police suspect that Chandrashekhar Sankol took his own life due to distress over this incident.
Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar’s children, who are ill, have been admitted to a private hospital in Davanagere, where they are receiving treatment. Due to the fire caused by pouring petrol, Chandrashekhar’s body was completely burnt. The Hadadi police have inspected the scene and launched an investigation.
District Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant said, “Upon receiving information about a person dying by suicide in his car, we arrived to investigate and found that he was Chandrashekhar, a former municipal corporation member from Vidyanagar. When inquiries were made in Vidyanagar, it was learned that the children had called Chandrashekhar last night, expressing their desire to talk to him and asking him to come soon. When Chandrashekhar said, ‘I will come,’ but he didn’t. Therefore, the children attempted suicide. Family members immediately took them to the hospital. Both are currently undergoing treatment.”
She added, “A complaint needs to be filed regarding the incident. After that, we will register the complaint. We are calling the FSL team to inspect the scene. The SOC team has already reached the spot. We will investigate to determine the cause of the suicide.”
Suicide is not a solution.
