Next hearing on January 27
The next hearing has been scheduled for January 27. Kangana Ranaut had filed a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance. Her lawyer had expressed concern that she would be at risk if she traveled to Punjab. The court will also pronounce its decision on the petition seeking to seize Kangana’s passport on the next date.
The petition seeking the seizure of the passport was filed by Raghubir Singh Bahniwal, the lawyer for the elderly woman, Mahinder Kaur. He argued that Kangana Ranaut’s passport should be seized to prevent her from traveling abroad under the pretext of shooting. The elderly woman, Mahinder Kaur, had filed the case. Film actress Kangana Ranaut, who is facing a defamation case due to a controversial tweet, did not appear in the Bathinda court during the parliamentary session.
Defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in Bathinda court
An elderly woman, Mata Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda, had filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in the Bathinda court. Kangana Ranaut had posted a picture of Mata Mahinder Kaur on Twitter and made a controversial comment. Following this, Mata Mahinder Kaur filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in the Bathinda court.
Case arose during the farmers’ protest
It is noteworthy that Kangana Ranaut had filed petitions in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court of India to stay this defamation case. Both courts refused to grant relief, after which the case is now being heard in the Bathinda court. It is worth noting that Kangana had posted something against the farmers during the farmers’ protest, in which she said that this was the same ‘Grandma Bilkis Bano who was part of the protests happening in Shaheen Bagh.’
