Srinagar: Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly’s budget session, Leader of the Opposition Omar Abdullah has convened a joint legislature party meeting in Jammu on Monday. The meeting will be held at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s official residence in Jammu, the winter capital of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will present the budget on February 6.
The 27-day-long budget session will begin on Monday in the Assembly in Jammu with an address by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Omar’s cabinet had discussed and approved this address on December 22 last year. The session will be held in two sittings from February 2 to April, with a month-long break during the month of Ramadan.
National Conference Chief Whip Mubarak Gul has asked MLAs from both the ruling and opposition parties to attend the joint legislature party meeting to be held at 4 pm under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.
In a message sent to the MLAs, Gul said, “All honorable members are requested to attend the meeting at the scheduled date, time, and venue, keeping in mind the importance of the discussion.”
This meeting will be held after the Lieutenant Governor’s address, as the main business of the House will begin from February 3. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget on February 6.
Subsequently, ministers will present their departmental grants for debate and discussion, and MLAs will also raise demands accordingly during the session. This will be the second budget that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will present in the Union Territory. Omar had presented the first budget in Jammu in March last year.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will also hold legislature party meetings in Jammu on Sunday and Monday to discuss their strategy for raising issues during the budget session.
