State Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandawal has taken cognizance of the extremely serious case of a laborer’s wife being refused admission at the Women’s Hospital in Haridwar. It has been learned that after being refused admission, the pregnant woman gave birth to her baby in agony on the floor. Furthermore, the doctors told the ASHA worker to clean the floor, saying, “This is your patient, so you should clean it.”
The family alleges that the doctor on duty, while removing the pregnant woman, declared that deliveries would not be possible there, and left her helpless. Hospital staff also refused to help. An ASHA worker who had brought the pregnant woman with her was even attempted to have her phone snatched when she tried to film it.
State Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandawal has taken suo motu cognizance of this matter. She stated that this is a matter of great concern, as the government provides all necessary facilities, and if anyone is treated in this manner by doctors or staff at the hospital, strict action will be taken against them.
He stated that, given the seriousness of the matter, a member of the State Women’s Commission has been directed to investigate. Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal has also directed CMOs RK Singh and Kamal Joshi to conduct an investigation.
He stated that after the investigation into this deplorable incident, strict action will be taken against the doctors on duty at the time, as per the rules, to prevent such a recurrence in the future.
