New Delhi: The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is underway in the nation’s capital. This is the first time such a large-scale global event on artificial intelligence is being held in the Global South. In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the summit’s guiding spirit, “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya.” Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s vision for this new era and said that AI should accelerate global development while remaining completely human-centric.
Calling the summit’s motto “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (for the welfare of all, for the happiness of all), PM Modi said that AI is at the point of a civilizational shift. It can enhance human capabilities in ways never before, but if left without guidance, it can also challenge the existing social fabric. That’s why we’ve deliberately built this Summit around impact, ensuring not just innovation but also meaningful and equitable outcomes. The guiding spirit, “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya,” reflects India’s civilizational mindset. The ultimate goal of technology should be “Sabka Bhala, Sabki Happiness.” Technology is meant to serve humanity, not replace it. This Summit is built around people, planet, and progress. AI systems are based on knowledge and data generated in societies around the world. Therefore, we want the benefits of AI to reach everyone, not just be limited to early adopters.
He said that as the first Global AI Summit held in the Global South, India is creating a platform that promotes underrepresented voices and development priorities. AI governance, inclusive datasets, climate applications, agricultural productivity, public health, and access to multiple languages โโare not peripheral issues for us; they are central. Our vision is clear: AI must accelerate global development while remaining fully human-centered.
Regarding the role of AI in the Developed India 2047 vision, Prime Minister Modi said that AI presents a transformative opportunity in India’s 2047 development journey. Thoughtful, strategic use of AI can help address profound development challenges, create entirely new economic opportunities, foster inclusive growth, narrow the urban-rural divide, and increase access to opportunities.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of AI in healthcare and education. He said that in education, AI-powered personalized learning platforms in Indian languages โโare helping students in rural and government schools receive customized academic support. He said that in a unique initiative, Amul is using AI to reach 3.6 million women dairy farmers in thousands of villages, providing real-time guidance in Gujarati on cattle health and productivity, and empowering grassroots women producers.
He said that even in preserving heritage, AI is enabling the digitization and translation of ancient books, revealing knowledge systems rooted in India’s civilization. At a time when the world is concerned about the growing distances from AI, India is using it to bridge these gaps. We are making it a powerful tool to provide health, education, and economic opportunities to every village, every district, and every citizen.
Prime Minister Modi said that India has the talent and entrepreneurial energy to become an AI powerhouse, not just as a consumer but also as a creator. Our startups, research institutions, and tech ecosystem can create AI solutions that will enhance manufacturing, improve governance, and create new jobs. I am confident that our young Indians can make AI solutions real, designed for farmers, MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, and grassroots innovators. We are committed to strengthening every effort of our talented youth.
PM Modi said that our journey towards a self-reliant India is built on a fundamental principle: India should not just use technology, but create it. My vision for AI in a self-reliant India rests on three pillars: sovereignty, inclusiveness, and innovation. My vision is for India to be one of the top three AI superpowers globally, not just in the use of AI, but also in its creation. Our AI models will be used worldwide, serving billions of people in their own languages.
He said that our AI startups will be valued in the hundreds of billions, creating millions of high-quality jobs. Our AI-powered public services will be studied worldwide as a benchmark for efficient, equitable governance. Most importantly, every Indian will experience AI as an opportunity provider, a capability enhancer, and a servant of humanity, not as a threat to their livelihood or a means of control.
He said that Aatmanirbhar Bharat in AI means India writes its own code for the digital century, and through the IndiaAI Mission, we are ensuring that that code reflects our values, serves our people, and makes India a responsible AI leader for the world.
