New Delhi/Islamabad: For the first time after Operation Sindoor, India has contacted Pakistan. India has warned Pakistan about the flood while performing its humanitarian duty. Pakistan has been informed about the possible flood in the Tawi river. However, it has not been formally confirmed.
Media reports said that India on Monday shared information with Pakistan about the possible flood in the Tawi river. Despite the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) being suspended after the Pahalgam terror attack, India has warned Pakistan about the possible flood in the Tawi river.
The News quoted official sources as saying that India has contacted Pakistan to share information about the possible flood. However, neither India nor Pakistan has officially confirmed this development. Usually such information is shared through the Indus Water Commissioner.
Citing sources, the newspaper claimed that India has warned Pakistan about possible flooding in the Tawi river in Jammu. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad gave this warning on Sunday, August 24.
First contact between the two countries
The newspaper quoted sources as saying that this is the first major contact between the two countries since the Pakistan-India conflict in May. It further said that Pakistani officials have issued a warning based on the information provided by India.
Indus Water Treaty suspended
Let us tell you that after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India took several punitive steps against Pakistan, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty. The Indus Water Treaty, mediated by the World Bank, has been controlling the distribution and use of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960.
Rain warning in most parts of Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rains in most parts of Pakistan till August 30. The NDMA warning comes at a time when the country is grappling with the early onset of monsoon from June 26 to August 20, in which till Saturday, more than 788 people have lost their lives and 1,018 people have been injured.
