Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also addressed the event and said that India has become the digital flag bearer of the world from a technology adopter. He highlighted India’s growth in mobile and broadband connectivity in the last 11 years and said the cost of mobile data has declined by 98 per cent. India now has 20 percent of the world’s mobile population. It has 1.2 billion customers and the number of broadband users has grown from 60 million in 2014 to 944 million today.
India has built the world’s largest digital highway
Scindia also announced that India has built the world’s largest digital highway that will connect millions of people and put the country at the centre of the global digital map. India’s first Satcom Summit was held at IMC 2025. Its theme was Space Network for Universal Connectivity. Policymakers, industry leaders and global innovators at the summit discussed how satellite technology can bridge India’s digital divide and accelerate inclusive growth.
Scindia said satellite communication has become the backbone of a national need and resilient infrastructure. “He said, “”Satcom means a doctor in every home and a teacher in a remote classroom.” With the first-of-its-kind Nisar mission, we showed that we are not just participating, we are innovating. India has become the pacemaker of the world.
India is also getting closer to starting 6G trials. Experts noted the importance of 5G use case saturation before the 6G rollout. Ashutosh Dutta, chief 5G strategist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, said that ubiquitous connectivity will be a key pillar of 6G, which highlights the role of satellites in areas without cell towers or Wi-Fi
