The Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission chairperson, Kusum Kandwal, has taken suo motu cognizance of the case involving a minor girl and a young man from a particular religious community who were found in suspicious circumstances at a guest house near Shimla Bypass in Dehradun at 3 AM last Wednesday. A large number of objectionable chats and videos of girls were also found on the man’s mobile phone. Calling the incident extremely serious, the chairperson has demanded a detailed report from the police and has instructed them to ensure the minor’s safety, provide counseling, and offer all possible assistance to her family.
The commission chairperson stated that negligence at any level in cases involving minors will not be tolerated. She has directed the SP City to take strict action against the accused under relevant sections of the law, conduct a forensic examination of the digital evidence, and investigate the role of the guest house management. She also instructed that strict adherence to identity verification and register entry procedures at guest houses be enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Women’s Commission clarified that it is a matter of grave concern that innocent girls are being trapped by individuals from a particular religious community and subjected to such serious incidents. Action must be taken against all those involved. The commission is closely monitoring the case and will take all necessary steps to ensure justice for the victim.
Calling the incident serious, the commission chairperson stated that the commission will instruct all District Magistrates in the state to ensure that all hotels, guest houses, lodges, and other places of accommodation maintain a register of all guests and that these registers are regularly inspected.
