In line with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives, key projects being implemented by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) are being rapidly progressed to give Dehradun a well-planned, modern, and well-organized look. The state government prioritizes strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring permanent solutions to problems related to traffic, parking, and commercial activities. In this regard, Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar is continuously reviewing the progress of departmental projects and conducting periodic on-site inspections to monitor the quality and timeliness of work. Today, Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar conducted a site inspection of three key projects of the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA). During the inspection, he reviewed the progress of the work and provided necessary guidance to the concerned officials.
*Indira Market Redevelopment Project*
This project is being implemented to relocate the affected shopkeepers of the Indira Market and Taxi Stand area to a well-organized and modern market. Work on the first phase of the project is in progress. Currently, construction of a two-story basement has been completed in Blocks C and D, and construction of the top floor is underway. The project includes a three-story basement with parking space for 1,050 cars. After the basement is complete, shop construction will begin. The project is targeted for completion by December so that affected shopkeepers can be allocated their shops promptly. During the inspection, specific instructions were given regarding construction quality, safety standards, and meeting the deadline.
*Aadhat Bazaar Project*
The road between Tehsil Chowk and Sahaspur Chowk in the heart of Dehradun city is proposed to be developed into a 24-meter-wide, streamlined road. Currently, the road’s width of 16 to 18 meters causes traffic congestion. To address this problem, a new Aadhat Bazaar is being developed on approximately 7.7 hectares of land on the Haridwar bypass. Under the project, construction work is underway, having prepared a systematic layout for various categories of markets. For the convenience of businesses and the public, a multi-level car parking with a capacity of approximately 650 vehicles is being constructed. In addition, warehouses, offices, overhead water tanks, STPs, parks, and other modern facilities are being developed. Adequate arrangements for electricity and drinking water supply are also being ensured. Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar directed that the work be completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on quality.
*Multi-Level Car Parking, Tehsil Complex*
Considering the parking problem in the Paltan Bazaar and Tehsil Chowk areas, a multi-level car parking is proposed to be constructed alongside the new Tehsil office. Negotiations are underway with the Darbar Sahib in this regard. The proposal is to develop a modern Tehsil office and a parking facility for approximately 1,000 vehicles at the site. Given the complexity of the project, Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar directed the concerned officials to expedite the negotiation process and take concrete steps to implement the project.
*Officials present during the inspection*
During the inspection, Authority Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya, Executive Engineer Sunil Kumar, Additional Engineer Naveen Chandra Juneja, Nazir Ahmed, Architect Prashant Nautiyal, Project Director Construction Unit, and other relevant officials were present. All officials were instructed to expedite the projects and ensure timely completion in accordance with standards.
