Following the largest cyber attack in Uttarakhand on October 2, 2024, IT experts have created a “honeypot” trap that traps cybercriminals, preventing them from reaching the original data center. This is the first such experiment in the state, strengthening cybersecurity.
To combat cybercriminals, the IT department has formed CERT-Uttarakhand, modeled after the Central Cyber โโEmergency Response Team (CERT-In). IT experts from several major institutions, including IITs, are working on this initiative. Together, these experts have developed a honeypot, a honey-trapping system for cybercriminals. This honeypot is protecting the state’s data center, which was severely affected by a cyberattack two years ago.
In reality, a honeypot is a clone that looks exactly like a data center. When a cybercriminal attacks, they enter the data center, mistaking it for a real data center. Once they do, our team of IT experts detects their every move and disables it accordingly. The remarkable thing is that since the creation of the honeypot, many major attacks have been caught in this trap and neutralized.
Cyberattacks in Uttarakhand are increasing every year.

About 150,000 cyberattacks occur every week in Uttarakhand. Our team has created a honeypot for cyber criminals to thwart these attacks, providing significant security to the data center
