HNB Medical University may replace members of the Anti-Ragging Committee during the affiliation extension process for Government Doon Medical College for the year 2026. The university is taking a strict stance following a recent ragging incident. This decision was made by the university in light of the increasing number of ragging incidents at the college.
Questions are being raised about the management of Doon Medical College after a ragging incident involving two junior students. The brutal beating of the juniors by senior students in the hostel has created an atmosphere of fear among all the students. The college management has expelled nine students in this case. Additionally, two students have been fined Rs. 50,000 each.
Preparation to replace members
The National Medical Commission and the UGC have also taken cognizance of the incident. The UGC had sought a response from HNB Medical University regarding the matter. Following this, the university had asked Doon Medical College for a detailed report on the entire incident. Now, the university is preparing to strengthen the Anti-Ragging Committee constituted to address ragging cases at the medical college.
In this process, several members may be replaced. Furthermore, the university is reviewing six other committees, including the Women’s Harassment, Discipline, and Internal Complaints Committees, formed for student welfare, and is preparing to replace members of these committees as well
