With a view to developing a deep understanding of the Indian knowledge tradition among the youth, a ‘Hindu Study Centre’ will soon be established in Doon University. In this centre, a multidisciplinary system of study, research and training on various subjects including Indian philosophy, history, literature, sociology, art, architecture will be developed. After BHU, Doon University will become the second major centre for Indian philosophy and Veda-Purana studies.
Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat today held a review meeting of Doon University in the DMMC auditorium at the Secretariat. In which he directed the Vice Chancellor of the University to complete all the necessary formalities for the establishment of ‘Hindu Study Centre’ in accordance with NEP-2020. Dr. Rawat said that the Hindu Study Centre will become an important platform for preserving, analysing and disseminating Indian spiritual and philosophical traditions. Dr. Rawat said that the study centre will encourage understanding of Hindu traditions, texts and philosophy and promote Indian research methodology for teaching and research. Apart from this, ethics, analytical vision and cultural understanding will also be developed in the learners by providing multidisciplinary education rooted in the Indian knowledge tradition. For this, a four-year undergraduate course will be conducted in the university, in which students will be taught subjects like Tattva Vimarsh, Dharma and Karma Vimarsh, Vaad-Parampara, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Leadership and Organizational Behavior, while at the postgraduate level, subjects like Hindu philosophy, society, literature, religion and leadership ability will be studied in depth.
Dr. Rawat said that after Banaras Hindu University, Doon University will be the second university in the country, where subjects related to Indian knowledge traditions including Vedas, Puranas and Indian philosophy will be studied systematically. He said that this center will work as a bridge between modernity and traditions and will prepare aware citizens and leaders with moral values, analytical approach and cultural consciousness.
In the meeting, the departmental minister also reviewed the progress of Dr. Nityanand Himalayan Research and Study Center and MSc Urban Development Management. He directed the departmental officials and university administration to make concrete efforts to make the research center more useful for students and develop the university as a Center for Excellence.
