Chamoli: Helicopters are flying in Rudranath area, ignoring the rules and regulations. Many helicopters are passing over the temple. Due to helicopters flying every five minutes, wildlife is also getting adversely affected.
The Rudranath temple area is located in the sanctuary area of Kedarnath Wildlife Division. From here, helicopters take pilgrims to Badrinath Dham after giving them darshan in Kedarnath. Here many helicopters are passing right above the Rudranath temple.
Devendra Singh Rawat, associated with the environment, says that earlier helicopters used to reach Jyotirmath and Badrinath via Pokhari area to go from Kedarnath to Badrinath Dham, but now helicopters are flying over Rudranath, due to which they have to cover less air distance. This is a sanctuary area. Various wild animals like musk deer, ghor, leopard, bear etc. reside here. Due to the noise of helicopters, wild animals are reaching the populated areas.
Sagar village social worker Satendra Rawat says that in Rudranath area, helicopters are flying at a short distance from the temple and bugyals. Flight standards should be set for helicopter companies. When asked about this, Tarun S, DFO of Kedarnath Wildlife Division, says that information will be taken regarding the flights.
