The lineman repairs the line without shutting it down. It was said in the PIL that the corporation gives the contract to an A class contractor to do this work. The employees of the contractor who is given the contract do not have full experience of doing this work. Neither are they given training to do this work. Nor do they have adequate equipment.
Petitioner Krishnakant has made this demand: The petitioner has demanded that only trained employees should be employed to repair the electric lines. Special attention should be paid to their safety. Before the hearing of the PIL, a similar case came to light in Jaspur. A lineman died while on duty. On this, the court has asked the Power Corporation to give a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased. With this, the next hearing of the case will be on August 18.
It is worth noting that in the month of June last year, a lineman who went to repair the power line in Berinag of Pithoragarh district died due to electric shock. After this incident, the villagers created a lot of ruckus. In the month of June itself, an electricity employee got electrocuted while repairing electricity in Dasholi of Chamoli district. He also died on the spot. In the month of June itself, a lineman died due to electric shock in Chhoi village area of Ramnagar in Nainital district. In the month of July last year, a lineman died due to electric shock while changing the electric wire in Gurna of Pithoragarh.
