Nainital: Uttarakhand High Court heard the PIL filed regarding holding the Panchayat elections being conducted by the State Election Commission in 12 districts of the state after the month of August during the rainy season. After hearing the case, today the state government, DGP and Secretary Panchayati Raj presented an affidavit saying that the commission, government and police have made full preparations to conduct the Panchayat elections. Kanwar Yatra is also going on peacefully. There is no hindrance in the elections due to this. Taking the affidavit, the division bench has disposed of the PIL.
Today, the Secretary Panchayati Raj appeared in the Uttarakhand High Court through video conferencing. Yesterday he had informed the court that the elections and Kanwar Yatra are going on as per the system. The police administration has deployed 30 percent force for Kanwar. 10 percent police is engaged in Chardham Yatra. 10 percent force has been kept in reserve for the elections.
Force reserve has been kept to deal with any situation during elections and Kanwar Yatra. Election Commission said that no problems are being faced in conducting elections. He said that Kanwariyas from Himachal, Haryana, Punjab, UP and Delhi are coming to the Kanwar fair. Whose first batch will end before the first date of elections. Secretary said that elections are in the second phase in the districts affected by Kanwar. DGP also presented his side in the court.
According to the case, Dr. Baijnath, a resident of Dehradun, had filed a PIL saying that the program of Panchayat elections is going on in the state right now. On the other hand, Kanwar Yatra, Chardham Yatra and rainy season are also going on. Administration, police and SDRF teams are engaged in flood relief in the state. In such a situation, conducting Panchayat elections is not free from danger.
