Nainital: Uttarakhand High Court has ordered the Chief Secretary of the state to submit a status report to the court within two weeks on the earlier order of the Supreme Court. The High Court has given this order regarding the earlier order issued by the Supreme Court, in which, the decision to create a “portal” for information related to legal, illegal construction and properties in urban areas and make it public. The High Court has also ordered to send a copy of this order to all urban bodies including Secretary Urban Development, Secretary Housing.
It is worth noting that the Uttarakhand High Court has sought a status report from the Chief Secretary regarding compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court. For which the High Court has given two weeks’ time. At the same time, the High Court has reserved the decision in the matter of encouraging illegal construction, compounding them, taking action against illegal flats. While hearing the petition of Pankaj Agarwal and others regarding illegal construction in Rishikesh, the division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra said that the Supreme Court had earlier ordered to create a portal to keep complete details of the properties located in urban bodies and make it public, so that the general public can get information about legal and illegal properties.
Also, they can buy and sell property as per the information received from the portal and investors can avoid fraud. The division bench has ordered the Chief Secretary and others to give the status report of compliance of the said order of the Supreme Court within two weeks. According to the petitioner, some people are doing illegal constructions in Rishikesh contrary to the approved map. Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority had sealed these illegal constructions. But after some time, the Assistant Engineer of the Development Authority removed the ban from the said sealing and approved the map by compounding the illegal construction. The petitioner says that illegal constructions should be stopped so that the environment can be saved. The petition further said that illegal construction is going on not only in Rishikesh but also in Dehradun and Mussoorie.
