Dehradun: The government has received 42 objections on the provisional reservation for the post of president in the district panchayats of the state (except Haridwar). The maximum 16 objections are from Dehradun district. The committee constituted by the government will dispose of them today. While the final publication of reservation will be done on August 6.
After the provisional reservation list for the post of president in the district panchayats was released, the government had given two days to object to it. On Monday, its second and last day, the government has received nine objections from Pauri district, three from Udham Singh Nagar, one from Rudraprayag, two from Uttarkashi, three from Champawat, one from Chamoli, four from Tehri and two from Pithoragarh district. Apart from this, an objection has been lodged by one person on reservation in all other districts except Haridwar.
The people who have lodged objections say that the government has fixed the reservation for the post of District Panchayat President arbitrarily. Where the seat for the post of District Panchayat President was to be unreserved, in that district it has been reserved for women.
At the same time, in the district where the seat of District Panchayat President was to be reserved for women, it has been made unreserved. The government has said in the order issued that the objections submitted after the date fixed for receiving objections against the provisional reservation proposal will not be considered.
This committee will settle the objections today
The committee constituted by the government will settle the objections filed on the reservation proposal today. The committee includes Additional Secretary Shyam Singh, Joint Director Rajiv Kumar Nath Tripathi, Manwar Singh Rana and Deputy Director Panchayati Raj Manoj Kumar Tiwari.
