New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of General Anil Chauhan’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). With this decision, he will also serve as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Government of India, until May 30, 2026, or until further orders.
According to the Ministry of Defence, General Chauhan was appointed CDS on September 28, 2022. General Chauhan was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1981 and has had a distinguished and illustrious career, including key command and staff appointments. The release stated that for his exemplary service to the Indian Army, he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence said in an official statement that the inaugural edition of the Tri-Services Academic Technology Symposium (T-SATS) began on Monday at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. It coordinated the service-academic R&D ecosystem to develop niche and futuristic technologies for the Indian Armed Forces.
The symposium was inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan. The event was attended by directors and heads of departments from academic and premier R&D institutions, as well as students from 62 institutions, including IISc, IITs, IIITs, and private technology institutes.
In his address, the CDS highlighted the changing nature of modern warfare. He emphasized the crucial role of academia, startups, and industry in developing doctrines and indigenous capabilities across various platforms, weapons, and networks to meet future operational requirements.
He called for a holistic national approach and urged academia to foster innovation and commit to making India a global leader in next-generation defense technologies. The CDS also inaugurated a technology exhibition.
It showcased 43 innovative exhibits selected by academia. These innovations were evaluated by subject matter experts from various technology areas across the three services for their potential military applications. Promising projects will be considered for future research and development collaboration and financial support.
