At around 6:30 pm on Monday evening, four wheels of an additional coach attached to the Nanda Devi Express derailed at Dehradun railway station. The accident occurred when the train collided with a wall. The incident caused panic among officials. Several divisional officials arrived in Dehradun, and all aspects of the matter are being investigated.
According to information, the additional coaches present at Dehradun railway station were attached to the Nanda Devi Express. After returning from its route, the train went to platform number five to park 10 of the 11 additional coaches. Due to the shunting master’s inaccurate information to the loco pilot, the train collided with the wall. By the time the loco pilot could handle the situation, four wheels of the coach had derailed.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, officials were alarmed. The railways took serious cognizance of the incident and dispatched officials from the Moradabad division to investigate. Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that it has also been revealed that the shunting master was drunk. He was unable to tell the loco pilot how much space was available behind, so the loco pilot was unable to stop the train. Efforts to lift the coach continued until late at night.
Several Trains Affected
The derailment at Dehradun railway station affected several trains. Several trains, including the Mussoorie Express and the Kumbh Express, were delayed. Following the incident, a special train was called from Haridwar to lift the derailed coach. Consequently, trains originating from Dehradun had to be stopped, and were only given the green signal when the special train arrived. This caused significant inconvenience to passengers.
