New Delhi: Former Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi was discharged from the hospital on Sunday evening after her health improved. A health bulletin issued by Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, stated that her condition was improving due to a good response to treatment. She was being treated at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital under the supervision of Senior Consultant Chest Medicine Dr. Arup Basu for an exacerbation of bronchial asthma due to a chest infection. After being discharged from the hospital, she has been advised to continue her treatment at home.
Earlier, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital at 10 pm on January 5th after her health deteriorated. She was experiencing difficulty breathing, and medical examinations revealed that her bronchial asthma had worsened slightly due to the combined effects of cold weather and pollution. As a precautionary measure, she was admitted to the hospital for further monitoring and treatment. She was given antibiotics and other supportive medications, which led to an improvement in her condition.
It is worth noting that 79-year-old Sonia Gandhi had also fallen ill earlier on June 7, 2025, during a visit to Himachal Pradesh. She was in Shimla at the time and was admitted to a hospital there. She was later brought to Delhi and admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Sonia Gandhi has also been brought to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for routine check-ups in the past.
