The State Tax Department is closely monitoring the firecracker and dry fruit trade during the festive season. The State Tax Department has launched a special campaign across the state against tax evasion. Under this campaign, GST of Rs 50 crore has been collected so far in actions taken against firecracker traders in various districts.
In view of the demand for firecrackers and dry fruits for Diwali, traders have stockpiled goods. Firecrackers attract an 18 percent GST. Firecrackers and dry fruits come into the state from outside states. The State Tax Department’s focus is specifically on the firecracker and dry fruit trade and goods imported from outside. Within the past week, departmental teams have taken action against firecracker traders in Dehradun, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar districts, collecting GST of Rs 50 crore.
Checkposts in the state’s border areas are checking goods carrying vehicles from outside. In addition, goods arriving from outside are monitored through e-way bill tracking. Additional Commissioner Anil Singh said that on the directions of the State Commissioner, a special checking drive is underway across the state to prevent GST evasion
