The farmers’ protest continued at Bahadarabad toll plaza in Haridwar today as well. Congress MLAs also reached the toll plaza to support the protest. BKU spokesperson Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait also reached Haridwar. He announced a Mahapanchayat.
On Thursday morning, the workers of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) who were marching towards Dehradun over smart meter and electricity related problems were stopped by the police at Bahadarabad toll plaza. During this, the farmers had a scuffle with the police and broke the barricades.
Along with this, the protest started by closing the four lanes of the toll plaza. After talks between the farmers and the administration till late night, the farmers peacefully protested with the ADO who arrived on the spot demanding four points. During this, Congress MLAs also reached.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (Tikait) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait while addressing the gathering said that the protest will continue till August 28. The administration has been given a week’s time. The administration should respond to the lathicharge. A Mahapanchayat will be held on 28th at Bahadarabad Toll Plaza. While giving instructions to the officers of the union, he said that maximum number of farmer leaders from Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, adjoining districts of Haridwar will be present at the protest site every day
