Kolkata: Following the announcement of assembly elections in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on Monday in connection with a case involving illegal call centers. Officials stated that ED teams are currently carrying out search operations at 10 locations, including Siliguri, Howrah, Bidhannagar, and Durgapur.
They further informed that the individuals whose premises are being searched include Surashree Kar, Samrat Ghosh, Subhajit Chakraborty, and others.
Officials from the central investigative agency stated that the probe is linked to the activities of an illegal call center. It was not immediately clear whether the investigation is connected to political funding or inducements related to the electoral process. In addition to Surashree Kar, Samrat Ghosh, and Subhajit Chakraborty, the premises of several other individuals are also being searched. Officials noted that numerous people have been defrauded through the call center currently under investigation.
While announcing the dates for the assembly elections in West Bengal on Sunday, the Election Commission stated that voting in the state would be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The election results are scheduled to be declared on May 4, alongside those of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
