Durgapur: The alleged gang rape of a medical college student in West Bengal’s Durgapur has sparked a heated political atmosphere. Amid mounting political pressure, the police are taking swift action in this case. The police have so far arrested five accused. The police conducted a crime scene recreation to further the investigation.
On Tuesday, October 14, the police took five accused in the gang rape of a medical student from Odisha to the spot. A senior police official said the accused in the gang rape case were taken to the forest adjacent to the Paranganj Kalibari crematorium. The area is located near the gate of IQ City Medical College Hospital in Durgapur. The victim’s friend, who was accompanied at the time of the incident, was also taken to the spot. Crime scene recreation was done. The entire process was also videographed.
Earlier this morning, two accused Sheikh Riyazuddin and Sheikh Naseeruddin were taken to their home in Bijra village for questioning. The clothes worn by the accused on the day of the incident were seized by the police. Durgapur Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Gupta said the clothes of the five accused and the victim have been seized. A joint team of Durgapur’s New Township Police Station and Durgapur Police Station was present throughout the operation.
One of the five people arrested is a former security guard of the private college, the police official said. The other is currently working in another hospital. Another accused is a temporary employee of the local municipality and another is unemployed. The police claim that the operation will further advance the investigation and the real mystery behind the incident will soon be revealed.

Odisha Commission for Women chairperson Shobhana Mohanty met the victim on Monday. The girl’s father said five accused had been arrested, but the main accused was still absconding, he told reporters.
