New Delhi: There’s a big relief for commuters traveling between Delhi and Haryana. After a long gap, the interstate electric bus service from the capital Delhi to Sonipat, Haryana, began on Thursday. The Delhi government is continuously adding EV buses to the DTC fleet to ensure environmentally friendly and pollution-free public transport.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the new e-bus service from Maharana Pratap ISBT (Kashmere Gate). This service is one of the initiatives launched under the Delhi government’s Develop Delhi Sankalp Patra, which aims to connect Delhi with neighboring states through better, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation. The Chief Minister noted that bus services previously operated on these routes, but were later discontinued. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also stated that the Delhi government has decided to gradually restore bus services on all existing routes. The launch of the e-bus service between Delhi and Baraut, followed by the Delhi-Sonipat e-bus service, is another step in that direction.
Route and Connectivity: This new service will run from Delhi’s Maharana Pratap ISBT to the Sonipat bus stand. The buses will pass through several key locations in Delhi, including GTB Nagar, Azadpur Terminal, Jahangirpuri Metro Station, Mukarba Chowk, Alipur, Delhi-Singhu Border, Kundli Industrial Area, TDI City, Rasoi, Nangal Mor, Biswa Mill, Rai, Bahalgarh, Jat Joshi, Fazilpur, Sonipat, and finally reach the Sonipat bus stand. This route will not only connect the border population of Delhi and Haryana but will also provide better connectivity to Delhi’s metro network, industrial areas, and educational institutions. Bus operating times:

Fares and amenities: The total distance between Delhi and Sonipat is approximately 50 kilometers. The one-way fare is ₹67. The fare is quite affordable for passengers. The buses are equipped with modern electrical systems, GPS, CCTV cameras, and comfortable seating arrangements. This service will be operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Benefits in both environment and convenience: According to officials, this initiative will not only enhance passenger convenience but also help reduce pollution and traffic congestion as part of the Green Delhi Mission. These completely zero-emission buses will provide a comfortable and environmentally friendly travel experience to thousands of passengers daily.
Buses to ply on 17 interstate routes: The Delhi government aims to launch similar electric bus services on 17 interstate routes. After the Delhi-Baraut route, the Delhi-Sonipat route is the second phase of this project, connecting the capital with Haryana through a safe, affordable, and sustainable public transport network.
