The three-day World Disaster Management Conference 2025 has begun in Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh also attended.
At the conference organized by UCOST, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh said that when history talks about disasters, Silakira will be a reference. Silakira’s success will always be an example. There could be no better place than Uttarakhand for a world-class summit. This state, situated between the Ganga and Yamuna, is also prone to disasters. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, Uttarakhand has received special attention. We are working on many aspects to become a developed country.
On one side is the Indian Ocean and on the other, the Himalayas. Today, more than 3,000 startups are earning millions through the Aroma Mission. The government is bringing those with the ability to understand technology to the market. This work began in Jammu and Kashmir. I will ask CSIR to take the Aroma Mission forward. I have met many young people who have left their jobs and started agro-startups.
Hydro-meteorological hazards have increased significantly in Uttarakhand over the past decade. The 2013 Kedarnath disaster and the 2021 Chamoli disaster have increased landslides. Climate change is occurring worldwide. Glaciers are melting. Glacier lakes and fragile mountain ecosystems, deforestation, and man-made disasters are all contributing factors to disasters. In 2014, Jammu experienced a disaster that swept away everything.
When we talk about disaster management, we need to consider the underlying causes. Construction along rivers.
