Due to which the lower areas are safe. Executive Director of Tehri Dam LP Joshi said that this dam has once again worked as a protective wall.
Executive Director of Tehri Dam LP Joshi said that when the deluge occurred in Dharali of Uttarkashi, all its water rapidly came into the lake of Tehri Dam. Due to which the water level of Tehri Lake started increasing. When the water level increased, the officials and employees of Tehri Dam project became alert. He said that if there was no Tehri Dam or this water was not filled in Tehri Dam, then the situation in the lower areas could have been very bad. He said that Tehri Dam is no less than a protective wall not only for Uttarakhand but also for a large part of Uttar Pradesh.
Tehri Dam’s Executive Director LP Joshi said that the dam reduces the danger in the plains, but sometimes such news comes that water is being released from the dam. This can cause danger in the lower areas. He said that Tehri Dam is for the protection of people.
LP Joshi said that the flood water discharged from the disaster that occurred in Dharali on 5th August was absorbed by the Tehri Dam lake. Due to which the water level of Tehri Lake increased. He said that when the disaster occurred in Dharali, 6 machines were run continuously at night from Tehri Dam for safety. Due to which water kept moving forward through the turbine in a normal way. Today the water level of Tehri Lake is 808 RL meters. 20 million units of electricity are being produced to maintain the level of Tehri Lake.
He said that even before this, in the 2013 disaster, Tehri Dam had worked as a life saver. He said that when the disaster struck in 2013, Tehri dam played a very important role at that time. At that time, whatever water came from above was also absorbed by Tehri lake. Due to which the area beyond Tehri suffered less damage.
Executive Director of Tehri Dam LP Joshi said that Tehri dam has played an important role in saving from a big disaster. If the water in the lake did not stop during the disaster, it would have reached Devprayag, Rishikesh, Haridwar directly beyond Tehri. Where there is a possibility of big damage.
