Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court has given a strict verdict in the case of beating a POCSO prisoner in jail. The High Court has taken cognizance of the matter and suspended the Deputy Jailor and Jawan of Sitarganj Jail. Along with this, the court has also ordered to present the names of other people involved in it. The case was heard in the division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra.
According to the case, Yogendra Kumar Sagar, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Udham Singh Nagar, inspected the jail on 11 July 2025. Submitted his report on 14 July. During the inspection of the jail, he also met the prisoner Subhan, who was very scared and had many wounds on his body. When asked, he told that on June 28, the constable and the deputy jailer along with others beat him up. When the prisoner was being interrogated, the constable and others started trying to threaten him by gesturing.
Taking cognizance of this, the secretary ordered immediate action and sent his report to the High Court. Taking cognizance of this, the court passed an order that the prisoner be presented in court by the jail administration. The court also saw the injuries he had sustained. The accused has been in jail since 2024 in connection with a POCSO case. The secretary of the District Legal Services Authority also appeared through video conference at the hearing. The court has also asked him to visit the jail from time to time. The names of Anil Yadav and Sunil Sharma, who assaulted the prisoner, have also come to light. The court asked why such incidents are happening in jails, which are against the jail rules.
