New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday took cognizance of the IndiGo crisis. A bench headed by Chief Justice DK Upadhyay questioned IndiGo, stating that one of the measures IndiGo should have taken to ensure compliance with flight duty limitations was to hire an adequate number of pilots. However, it appears that IndiGo failed to hire the required number of pilots in a timely manner to ensure compliance with flight duty limitations.
The High Court directed the Central Government and IndiGo to file their replies. The High Court asked the Central Government, “Are you so helpless that you are hesitant to take action against the airline?” The High Court questioned the situation, asking why millions of passengers were allowed to become stranded at airports without assistance. The court questioned the petition, stating that it was filed with incomplete preparation, but was taking cognizance of the matter in the public interest. The petition was filed by Akhil Rana and Utkarsh Sharma.
It should be noted that on December 8th, the Supreme Court refused to grant an urgent hearing on this petition. Today, a lawyer mentioned the matter before Chief Justice Surya Kant, requesting an early hearing. Chief Justice Surya Kant stated that the Government of India had already taken cognizance of the matter and that timely action had been taken. Let the government handle the matter; there was no need for an urgent hearing.
