New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a defamation petition filed by former Narcotics Control Bureau officer Sameer Wankhede against Netflix, Shah Rukh Khan, and the producers of the web series ‘The Bad Boys of Bollywood’ regarding his portrayal in the series, which is related to the Aryan Khan drug case. Justice Pushpendra Kaurav’s bench passed the order dismissing the petition.
The High Court stated that this court is not the appropriate forum to hear this petition. The court allowed Sameer Wankhede to present his case before the appropriate forum. Sameer Wankhede had sought โน2 crore in damages from Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri Khan’s company Red Chillies Entertainment, and other parties. Sameer Wankhede had claimed that his image was misrepresented in the web series. He alleged that the web series attempted to tarnish not only his image but also that of the investigating agency.
The petition stated that since the case involving Sameer Wankhede and Aryan Khan is still pending before the Bombay High Court and the trial court, producing a web series on this subject amounts to interfering with the court’s proceedings. The petition also stated that the compensation awarded by the court for the damage to Sameer Wankhede’s reputation should be donated to the Tata Memorial Hospital.
Wankhede’s petition further alleged that the content of the web series violates several provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, as it attempts to hurt national sentiments through obscene and objectionable content.
