New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has banned the unauthorized use of content related to the personality of renowned cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora ordered social media platforms and websites to take action within seven days.
Sunil Gavaskar had filed a petition seeking a ban on the unauthorized use of any content related to him. Previously, the Delhi High Court had ordered the ban on the use of content related to the personalities of several film personalities. On December 11, the Delhi High Court ordered a ban on the unauthorized use of film actor Salman Khan’s photos and content related to his personality.
The court ordered social media platforms and websites to take action within three days. Salman Khan had demanded that his photos and content related to his personality be prohibited from being used without permission. During the hearing, senior lawyer Sandeep Sethi argued that Salman Khan’s name, photo, and voice were being misused. He stated that several organizations and social media accounts were using Salman Khan’s photo, voice, and other content related to his personality without his permission. He demanded that the defendants be restrained from doing so.
On November 27th, the court issued an interim order prohibiting the use of any content related to the photo and personality of film actor Ajay Devgan without permission. The court also ordered the removal of content created using artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology from the internet. Recently, the High Court has ordered the prohibition of the use of photos and personal information of several prominent celebrities without permission.
The court also ordered the prohibition of the use of personal information related to actress and MP Jaya Bachchan, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and film producer Karan Johar without permission.
