New Delhi: The Delhi government today announced an ambitious scheme of Rs 170 crore, under which 15 government industrial training institutes (ITIs) will be converted into centers of excellence equipped with state-of-the-art technology. This initiative is linked to the Government of India’s Rs 60 thousand crore National ITI Upgradation Scheme. This announcement was made by Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa during the regional conference of skill ministers of states organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that the upgraded ITI of Delhi will equip the youth with 21st century capabilities, so that they become job givers and not just job seekers. World-class infrastructure is being combined with ‘same-day approval’ and digital transparency.
Sirsa said that the Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), which is being handled by Minister Higher Education, Training and Technical Education, Ashish Sood, has been made the nodal agency of this scheme. He also said, the previous governments deliberately stopped the welfare schemes of the Centre, due to which the people of Delhi voted them out of power and expressed their faith in the Modi model of governance. He said, โBy including EV, AI, robotics and green energy modules in the ITI curriculum, the youth are being prepared for the future.โ
Delhiโs Model Career Centre (Pusa) has already registered more than seven thousand youth, out of which 2,122 have got jobs in reputed companies like PVR, JBM, Tata Electronics, Lemon Tree Hotels and L&T Construction.
Reiterating the governmentโs commitment, Sirsa said, โDelhiโs Skill Roadmap 2.0 is an open-source blueprint to empower the youth. From adding skill credits in the school curriculum to setting up incubation and seed-fund cells in every hub ITI, Delhi is showing that skill development is truly the turbo-charger of a developed India @2047.โ
What will happen under the hub-and-spoke architecture:
ITI Pusa (Central Delhi), ITI Shahdara (East Delhi) and ITI Mangolpuri (North-West Delhi) will act as hub institutes and guide the spoke ITIs, up to four each, with infrastructure, faculty development and industry linkages.
The special purpose vehicles will have contributions from the Centre, Delhi government and industry partners, and fund release will be transparent and milestone-based.
Smart classrooms, simulation labs and blended-learning content will be implemented, along with mandatory internships and apprenticeship-enabled diplomas.
Along with ITI transformation, the Delhi government is creating an ecosystem of centres of excellence in Dhirpur, Mayur Vihar and Pusa, where students are being trained in industrial automation, robotics and advanced welding.
Over 1,300 artisans have already received training under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, while programmes like the Jan Shikshan Sansthan in Jahangirpuri are adding more artisans to the mix. Over 1,000 women have received training at their doorsteps.
Future roadmap:
Delhi government to soon launch apprenticeship-based degree programmes in DSEU and DTU.
Quarterly apprenticeship melas for women and Divyangjans with โน1,000 additional stipend.
Mobile skilling vans equipped with solar panels and VR welding simulators under TKOS-JSS fusion model.
Entrepreneurship and innovation cells in each hub ITI to be linked with MUDRA, PMEGP and SIDBI to promote the โapprentice-to-entrepreneurโ journey.
