The car that ran over 19-year-old student Pragya Singh near the Sarovar Hotel on October 23rd has been identified. The car turns out to be from Roorkee. Police are investigating the driver. They have been told that an elderly man was driving the car. Police say the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken after identifying the accused.
Meanwhile, the student’s condition remains critical. She underwent brain surgery on Wednesday due to loss of consciousness for five days and increased internal bleeding. The next 48 hours are crucial for her. Pragya, a first-year LLB student at Uttarakhand University in Dehradun, was returning from Delhi on the evening of the incident. She was struck by a speeding car in front of the Sarovar Hotel. She has been unconscious in the ICU ever since.
The real culprit was identified after an investigation of seven black vehicles.
Patel Nagar Police Station Head Chandrabhan Adhikari stated that Pragya’s 13-year-old younger brother was with her at the time of the accident. The incident occurred between 4 and 4:15 p.m. The child has been in a state of shock since the accident. He could only say that a large black car had hit his sister. Based on this, footage from several CCTV cameras installed at Kargi Chowk was examined, which identified seven black vehicles. After investigating them, the real car was identified. The car responsible for the accident was found in Roorkee.
The student’s father died in a road accident in 2013.
Pragya’s mother, Asha Singh, said that her husband died in a road accident in Delhi in 2013. She moved from Delhi to Dehradun in 2015 to raise her three children and start a new life. She said that her eldest daughter, Pragya, is her sole support. She began helping with family responsibilities at a very young age and excelled in her studies. Seeing her condition now is heartbreaking. Leaving her 13-year-old son alone at home, she stayed at the hospital, praying for her daughter’s life. Another son is in a hostel.
