Nainital: Khupi village of lake city Nainital is becoming very sensitive from the viewpoint of landslides. Landslides are happening continuously in the village since 2014. Due to which many families have migrated from the village till now. Due to landslides, big cracks are continuously appearing in the village. Due to which the existence of the village is now in danger. Despite this, the attention of the government administration has not gone towards the affected people of Khupi village till now.
Local resident Munni Devi tells that due to continuous landslides in the village, about 100 Nali land of the villagers has been submerged in the landslide till now. Due to the landslides in the village, big cracks have started appearing in most of the houses. Due to the cracks in the houses, more than half a dozen families have left the village and moved to another safe place.
Local Mahendra Prasad tells that landslides are happening in the village since 2011. They have pleaded with government representatives and politicians many times to get rid of the danger looming over the village, but no one has listened to their pleas so far. Local Munni Devi says that she built a two-room house by working hard, which has now come under the grip of landslide. There are big cracks in the house. She said that today her house is in danger. Even after this, the administrative officers and politicians did not take care of her.
The existence of Nainital is also under threat due to the landslide happening in the village for many decades. Khupi village is adjacent to the Ballia drain along with the foothills of Nainital. Due to which landslides are constantly taking place in the village. Army Cantt area and AaluKhet village are right above Khupi village. These are facing the greatest threat of landslide. In this case, Nainital SDM Nawazish Khalik said that an action plan is being made to relocate the people of the landslide-affected area to a safe place. Earlier a place was identified which has been declared unsafe from the geological point of view. Another place is being identified by the department.
