To return to power, Congress needs strong workers. However, workers aspire to become commanders rather than soldiers. This is the reason for the long list of candidates for positions in the State Congress Committee (PCC).
The Congress high command wants a strong team for the 2027 elections, consisting of energetic and strong leaders. The PCC has not been formed since 2022. During the tenure of former president Pritam Singh, a state executive committee was formed, in which over two hundred office bearers were appointed. After that, the president was changed, but there was no change in the PCC.
While serving as president, Karan Mahara attempted to form a new team, but the high command did not take it seriously. The Lok Sabha elections and the Mangalore, Badrinath, and Kedarnath assembly by-elections were fought with the support of the old team. Congress was successful in winning the Mangalore and Badrinath seats. The high command has handed over the reins of the state Congress to Ganesh Godiyal.
Godiyal assumed office on November 16, 2025. The PCC has not yet been formed. Several rounds of meetings have been held in Delhi. According to sources, the high command has formulated a strategy to form a smaller and more organized team. The leaders who will be given positions in the state Congress will also have their responsibilities determined. However, all the senior leaders in the state have submitted their own lists for the PCC. This has put the formation of the PCC on hold.
