Namrup (Assam): Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress on Sunday, accusing the party of engaging in anti-national activities and helping illegal Bangladeshi immigrants settle in the state.
Addressing a public rally after inaugurating a ₹10,601 crore fertilizer plant in Namrup, Dibrugarh, Assam, Modi also alleged that the Congress had made no effort to modernize the old plant or find solutions to the problems of farmers.
The PM claimed, “Congress is involved in anti-national activities. They want illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle in Assam.” He said that the opposition party has no concern for the identity, existence, and pride of the Assamese people, which the BJP is trying to protect.
Modi said, “Congress is opposing the changes in the voter list because it only wants to grab power… They oppose whatever good work I try to do… The BJP government will always work to protect the identity, land, pride, and existence of the Assamese people.”
The Prime Minister said that the BJP government’s goal is to make Assam as powerful as it was centuries ago during the Ahom dynasty. Modi said, “Industrialization and connectivity are fulfilling Assam’s dreams. The BJP’s double-engine government is empowering the youth to dream new dreams.”
He said that the Namrup Urea Plant will help local farmers and create thousands of jobs for Assamese youth. The PM said, “The Namrup Fertilizer Plant in Assam will become a symbol of the country’s industrial growth. It is sad that the Congress did not try to modernize the plant and find solutions to the farmers’ problems.”
He stressed that India will progress only when farmers are prosperous, and the BJP government has launched several schemes for their upliftment. Modi said, “Many fertilizer factories closed down during the Congress rule. When we came to power, the BJP government set up many new plants across the country.” The PM also said that the central government’s Palm Oil Mission will make the Northeast self-sufficient in edible oil and increase farmers’ income in the coming days.
