Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Rampur Tiraha Martyrs’ Site in Muzaffarnagar on Thursday to pay tribute to the state agitators. He laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and said that the Rampur Tiraha firing incident of October 2, 1994, was the darkest chapter of the Uttarakhand movement. This brutal incident shook the soul of every Uttarakhandi.
The Chief Minister announced that a master plan for the redevelopment of the Martyrs’ Site would be prepared. The museum would be given a grand look. A canteen and bus stop would also be built there. He said that this site would serve as a reminder of the sacrifices to the new generation.
The Chief Minister also informed about ongoing schemes for the agitators and their families. Martyrs’ families receive a monthly pension of โน3,000, injured and imprisoned agitators receive โน6,000, and active agitators receive โน4,500. 10 percent horizontal reservation in jobs and 30 percent reservation for women are in effect. Free travel is also provided on government buses.
CM Dhami said that the foundation of the state was watered with the blood of martyrs. The role of women in the statehood movement has been unforgettable. The government is committed to building the Uttarakhand of their dreams.
He further stated that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state has ensured equal rights for all. Strict anti-copying laws have provided jobs to 24,000 youth. Strict steps have been taken to prevent religious conversion and encroachment. A decision has also been taken to abolish the Madrasa Board by implementing a new law
