Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami will visit Chamoli today. At 11:30 am, he will visit the Nandanagar area. He will conduct a field inspection of the disaster and relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister will conduct surveys in the affected areas of Phali, Kuntri, and others. He will also meet with all the people affected by the disaster.
On Friday, five more bodies were recovered from the debris in the Phali and Kuntri areas. So far, one of the 10 people missing in the disaster has been rescued, while the bodies of seven others have been recovered. Two people are still missing in Dhurma village, and the search is ongoing. All seven recovered bodies have been handed over to their families.
The last rites of those who lost their lives in the disaster were performed with tearful eyes on Friday. The ceremony took place at the confluence of the Nandakini and Chufla rivers in Nandanagar, where everyone’s eyes were filled with tears at the sight of the pyres burning one after another since morning. The entire area is immersed in grief.
The bodies of Narendra Singh and Jagdamba Prasad were recovered on Thursday. Narendra Singh was the first to be cremated in the morning. Jagdamba Prasad’s body was preserved because his relatives were unable to arrive. Later, when his wife Bhaga Devi’s body was recovered and relatives arrived, both husband and wife were cremated together. Subsequently, the bodies of the other victims of the disaster were also cremated at the Sangam site.
