Dehradun: Vinay Kumar Ruhela, Vice President of the State Advisory Committee of the Disaster Management Department, said that if it is raining heavily, then the Chardham passengers should be stopped at safe places for some time and sent forward only after the rain stops. The Disaster Management Department gave this information in a meeting called in view of the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rain, snowfall, lightning, hailstorm on May 7 and 8 in Uttarkashi district and orange and yellow alerts on May 6, 7 and 8 in other districts. In the meeting, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman instructed the officials to make all the necessary preparations.
He said that if the passengers are being stopped at a place where there are no shops due to bad weather, then proper arrangements for food should be made for the passengers there. If it is felt that the number of passengers has increased in a district due to rain or there is a possibility of jam, then the passengers should be stopped in another district itself. Secretary Suman said that deployment of JCB and other equipment should be ensured in all the landslide prone areas on the travel route and efforts should be made to open the route as soon as possible.
He said that through CAP i.e. Common Alert Protocol, SMS is sent to people regarding weather related alerts. It should also be checked whether these alerts are being received by the common people on time or not. He said that a WhatsApp group should be created by connecting the villagers so that every citizen gets different types of alerts. Additional Chief Executive Officer Administration Anand Swaroop, Additional Chief Executive Officer Implementation DIG Rajkumar Negi etc. were present in the meeting.
Initiative to connect communities in Tehri
Secretary Suman said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, an initiative has been started to connect communities to deal with disasters effectively. Tehri district has started this. Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit has formed a group of five people in each village, who will inform the District Emergency Operations Center in case of any kind of disaster. Rapid action will be taken on the information given through them. This will help in running relief and rescue operations and providing necessary relief in the affected areas immediately after receiving the information. He said that take the information of the people seriously and take immediate action. If someone gives misleading information, an FIR should be registered against them.
CM received information from Disaster Management Secretary
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had sought information from Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department Vinod Kumar Suman regarding the weather forecast of the Meteorological Department. He had directed Secretary Suman to hold a meeting with the officers of the districts. The CM also got information about the recent rains.
