New Delhi: Counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly election has begun, and trends are pouring in, showing the NDA maintaining a lead. Meanwhile, a unique and enthusiastic atmosphere is prevailing at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Amid the fierce contest and the hustle and bustle of the results, the aroma of traditional Bihari cuisine is permeating the headquarters, with hot Sattu Parathas and Jalebis being prepared for workers and leaders.
The caterer says, “We are preparing Jalebis, Sattu Parathas, and Baingan Chokha. We can also prepare Litti Chokha here. Today is a festival for Bihar.”
The two-phase voting process for Bihar’s 243 assembly seats has been completed. Counting is now underway on Friday. With extensive arrangements and strict protocols in place to ensure transparency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and reliable counting process across the state.
According to officials, 243 Returning Officers (ROs), assisted by 243 counting observers, will oversee the process in the presence of contesting candidates and their authorized agents. A majority requires any party or alliance to achieve 122 votes. Both the NDA and the Grand Alliance have claimed victory. Their claims about the record voter turnout also differ. While the NDA is calling it a mandate in support of good governance, the opposition is viewing it as a sign of the public’s desire for change.
