New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a big decision. According to this decision, now the answer sheets of 10th and 12th board examinations will be evaluated digitally. For this, some agencies will be selected by the board. These agencies should have prior experience of digital evaluation of answer sheets of school board or university examinations.
In this decision taken in the meeting of the Governing Body of BSE, the members suggested that evaluation can be implemented in all subjects of 10th-12th only after the completion of pilot projects in some subjects in different regional offices of the board.
Apart from this, according to the governing body meeting of CBSE, earlier also, with the objective of reducing the time of evaluation of answer sheets and bringing more accuracy in evaluation, CBSE had implemented digital evaluation for some subjects of 10th board examination under some of its regional offices in the year 2014 and for some subjects of 12th board examination in Delhi in the next year i.e. 2015.
Responsibility of evaluation will be given to experienced agencies
According to CBSE’s decision, such agencies will be selected for digital evaluation of answer sheets which already have experience of digital evaluation of answer sheets in examinations conducted by school boards, universities or examination bodies controlled by central/state government. However, evaluation of copies of 10th and 12th board examinations is done under a confidential process, due to this it is necessary that the checking of answer sheets is completed responsibly and without any rigging.
How much will it cost on digital evaluation
It is expected that around Rs 28 crore will be spent during the digital evaluation of the answer sheets of CBSE board exams. Regarding this, the board official said that digital evaluation work is already being done in many universities and it has proved to be beneficial. Its biggest benefit is that along with removing the inequality in evaluation, the examination process will be strengthened further.
Approval of ‘open-book’ examination for 9th from 2026
CBSE has decided to include ‘open-book’ evaluation in the examinations of 9th from the academic session 2026-27. Teachers have also expressed their support for this evaluation. This new system has been prepared on the basis of National Education Policy i.e. NEP 2020. In this, the main objective of this evaluation is to test the understanding and analytical ability of the students instead of rote learning. Maths, Science and Social Sciences will be included in this evaluation.
