The Learjet 45 was under the command of Captain Sumit Kapoor, who was the pilot in command of this flight. As a senior pilot, he led the flight crew and made decisions during crucial phases of the flight, such as take-off and landing.
Officials confirmed that he was on board the Learjet 45XR (VT-SSK) with Ajit Pawar and other passengers when it crashed near the runway. Sumit Kapoor had considerable experience flying business jets. Sumit Kapoor, associated with VSR Aviation, had previously flown high-speed, short-runway jets like the Learjet. It is worth noting that a Learjet 45 aircraft belonging to VSR Aviation had crashed at Mumbai Airport in 2023, which was investigated by the AAIB. All the passengers survived that previous incident, but the current accident has once again raised questions about the company’s safety record.
