The bodies of seven of the nine missing individuals in the Chenagad disaster in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, have been recovered so far. Five bodies were recovered while removing debris and boulders on Saturday, while one remains (a leg) were recovered. Only one body has been identified so far. Another body and one remains were recovered during debris removal on Friday.
On the night of August 28/29, a cloudburst in the Chenagad area caused massive devastation. Nine people went missing in the disaster, including four Nepalese. Since the incident, the district administration, the SDRF, and the DDRF have been conducting continuous search and rescue operations to find the missing individuals. Seven bodies have been recovered so far.
On Saturday, while employees and workers from the Public Works Department, Ukhimath, were removing debris and boulders from the road, a police team began searching for the bodies when a foul smell began emanating from a damaged house at the scene. After removing the iron rods, five bodies were recovered from outside and inside the house. While one leg was also recovered. The bodies have not been identified yet. In-charge of Guptkashi police station, Ranjit Khaneda said that two mobile phones and a purse were also recovered in the debris, in which Nepali rupees were kept. He said that five bodies and one leg were recovered on Saturday, while one body and one leg were recovered on Friday. Till now only one person has been identified. The process of identifying the others is going on. He said that two people are still missing, for whom search is going on
