BJP has won the District Panchayat President’s seat in 10 districts of the state while one seat has gone to Congress. The result of Nainital District Panchayat President is yet to come.
On Thursday, voting started at 10 am for the posts of Block Pramukh, District Panchayat Vice President in 12 districts of the state and for the post of District Panchayat President in seven districts. Voting took place in all the districts till 3 pm. Some disputes also took place in Nainital during this period. Due to which the matter reached the High Court Nainital and the result is yet to come.
Out of the remaining six districts, BJP candidates won in five. BJP’s District Panchayat Presidents have already been elected unopposed in five districts. In Dehradun, the Congress candidate won the District Panchayat President’s post.

Independents became kingmakers in the victory
This time, out of 358 seats of Zila Panchayat member, 145 were captured by independents. BJP-supported candidates won on 121 seats and Congress-supported candidates won on 92 seats. From Dehradun to the hill districts, these independents were seen playing the role of kingmakers in the victory of Zila Panchayat president post. Congress had 13 members in Dehradun, the remaining four were supported by independents. Similarly, these independents have also voted for BJP in many districts.
