Thane (Maharashtra): With just two days left for the Ambernath Municipal Corporation elections, a shocking incident has occurred. Some unknown individuals opened fire on the office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pawan Walekar. A security guard was reportedly injured in the attack. This incident has heightened political tensions and created an atmosphere of fear in the area.
How the Attack Unfolded:
According to reports, the incident took place around 1 AM on Wednesday night. BJP candidate Pawan Walekar was sitting in his office in the Navin Bhindi Pada area of Ambernath West with his party workers. At that time, two unknown individuals on a motorcycle fired four rounds at the office. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the office. The attackers were seen wearing helmets and masks.
Security Concerns Ahead of CM’s Rally:
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is scheduled to hold a meeting in Ambernath today. This firing incident, occurring just before the Chief Minister’s arrival and the elections, has raised serious questions about the city’s security arrangements. Following the incident, there is an atmosphere of tension and fear throughout Ambernath and Badlapur.
Police Statement:
ACP Shailesh Kale stated that a case has been registered against two unknown individuals at the Ambernath police station. Police suspect that the firing was carried out with the intention of creating panic in the area. Crime Branch, Ambernath, and Badlapur police teams are working to apprehend the accused.
Security Guard Targeted:
The bullets fired by the attackers hit the office windows. As soon as the security guard stationed there came out after hearing the gunshots, the attackers fired at him as well. The security guard was injured in the attack.
BJP Stages Protest:
The incident has intensified the political atmosphere. Former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar and other party workers staged a protest at the police station demanding the arrest of the accused. BJP leaders leveled serious allegations, claiming that they had provided the police with the names of some suspects, but the police were being lax in taking action against them.
