New Delhi: The notification for the first phase of Bihar assembly elections was released on October 10, but seat sharing between the NDA and the grand alliance has not been announced yet. A meeting between the leaders of both the alliances is underway. Meanwhile, sources in the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said on Friday that the seat-sharing formula in the Mahagathbandhan (India block) has been decided.
A party of CPI(M) leaders including party general secretary, two politburo members, state secretary and central committee member (CCM) Lalan Chaudhary, CCM Awadhesh Kumar and legislature party leader Ajay Kumar met RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday and discussed seat-sharing. The seat-sharing formula is expected to be finalised soon.
“Party sources told ETV Bharat in New Delhi, “”It has already been decided that the CPI(M) will contest this election as part of the Mahagathbandhan (India Block) with the aim of defeating the BJP-led NDA and increasing its independent strength.””” Appropriate decisions were taken in this direction in the meeting.
Before the meeting with Tejashwi Yadav, the CPI(M) state secretariat and the state committee met in Patna to plan the election campaign. In these meetings, CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby and Politburo member A. Vijayraghavan and Dr. Ashok Dhawale also joined.
Speaking to an ETV India correspondent, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja has said that the Left parties are expecting a respectable seat-sharing formula. “””A more respectful, democratic and grassroots-driven leadership approach to the opposition, including the Congress, was essential to build a strong, sustainable and alternative alternative to the BJP,”” Raja said.”
Notably, the Left parties are under pressure for a larger share in the upcoming elections. The CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, the CPI and the CPI-Marxist (CPM) have collectively demanded at least 75 assembly seats in front of their two key allies – the RJD and the Congress. In the last election, the grand alliance, including the RJD, Congress and other Left parties, won 110 out of 243 seats, missing out on a majority.
When is the election in Bihar:
