New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on online content exploited through AI and defacements. Social media platforms have opposed Baba Ramdev’s petition, stating that this petition is an attempt to suppress dissent. Justice Jyoti Singh’s bench will also hear the petition tomorrow, February 18th.
During today’s hearing, Baba Ramdev argued that the use of content related to him without permission should be prohibited. Content related to Baba Ramdev is being misused on online platforms. During the hearing, social media platforms stated that through this petition filed to protect his personality rights, Baba Ramdev also wants to remove parodies, satire, political commentary, news reports, and fact checks. This would violate citizens’ freedom of expression.
The social media platform stated that in his petition, Baba Ramdev is seeking the removal of a video in which he rides an elephant, a video in which he is shown seeking treatment at an allopathic doctor, and the removal of his previous statements on petrol prices. The social media platform stated that such expression is protected by law.
It should be noted that the High Court has previously ordered the protection of the personality rights of several celebrities. The High Court has ordered the prohibition of the use of personal information related to actor Vivek Oberoi, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, film actor Salman Khan, actor Ajay Devgan, actress and MP Jaya Bachchan, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and film producer Karan Johar without permission.
