The Ayushman Bharat Yojana has completed seven years. So far, 1.7 million patients have benefited from free treatment under the scheme. The government has spent ₹3,300 crore on this initiative. Ayushman cards have been issued for over 6.1 million beneficiaries under the scheme.
On September 23, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Each family receives free treatment up to ₹5 lakh per year. The central scheme covers 5.97 lakh families in the state. Following the central government’s initiative, the state government launched the Atal Ayushman Yojana (APAY) for 2.3 million families and the State Government Health Scheme (SHS) for employees and pensioners.
Over 6.1 million cards have been issued under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Atal Ayushman Yojana (APAY), and Uttarakhand State Government Health Scheme (SHS). A total of 396 hospitals are listed under the Ayushman Yojana in the state, including 201 government hospitals and 195 private hospitals. More than 31,000 hospitals outside the state are listed under the Ayushman Yojana.
Treatment begins immediately based on a police report.
The central government has launched the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana for senior citizens aged 70 years and above. This scheme provides cashless treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh for the elderly. To date, more than 20,000 Vaya Vandana cards have been issued in the state. An amount of Rs. 20 crore has been spent on the treatment of 5,000 beneficiaries. Under Ayushman Yojana, a special cashless treatment scheme has been established for road accident victims through a joint initiative of the National Health Authority and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Under this scheme, treatment for any road accident victim is immediately initiated based solely on a police report. Cashless treatment up to Rs. 1.50 lakh or seven days is available.
State Health Authority Chairman Arvind Singh Hyanki stated that every effort is being made to ensure that the Ayushman Yojana meets public expectations. Hospitals have been instructed to ensure that there are no shortcomings in services. Strict action is being taken against hospitals submitting false claims.
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana is the world’s largest health plan. This scheme is proving to be a lifeline for millions of patients. In Uttarakhand, 1.7 million patients have benefited from free treatment under the scheme in seven years.
