Jaisalmer: On Sunday evening, an Army Gypsy met with an accident in the Tanot police station area. In the mishap, one Major was martyred, while a Lieutenant Colonel and four other personnel were injured. The accident occurred near Gamnewala village, between Ramgarh and Longewala. The injured soldiers are currently undergoing treatment at an Army hospital.
According to ASI Achalram of Tanot police station, an investigation into the incident has begun. Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle lost control and overturned after a sudden turn on the road. Eyewitnesses said that four Army officers were heading towards Longewala in the Gypsy when the vehicle lost balance and overturned near Gamnewala.
The injured were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Prashant Rai (32), Major T.C. Bhardwaj (33), Major Amit (30), Major Prachi Shukla, and driver Naseeruddin.
ASI Achalram said the injured were immediately taken to Ramgarh Hospital in an Army vehicle, where Major T.C. Bhardwaj succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The others were referred to the Army hospital for further care. Major Bhardwaj hailed from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. Reports indicate that Major Amit suffered injuries near his eye, Major Prachi Shukla sustained a serious head injury, and driver Naseeruddin injured his left ear. All are currently in stable condition.
Upon receiving information, Tanot and Ramgarh police reached the spot. Major T.C. Bhardwajโs body was handed over to the Army after postmortem. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident.
