Rudrapur: Uttarakhand STF and Rudrapur Kotwali Police have arrested a smuggler from Kotwali area. 8 automatic pistols and magazines have been recovered from the accused. The accused has been handed over to Kotwali police. The accused brings pistols from a smuggler in Madhya Pradesh and supplies them in the district. The accused has also been jailed in the past for robbery and Arms Act.
Uttarakhand STF and Rudrapur Kotwali Police have jointly taken action and arrested an arms smuggler. 8 automatic pistols and magazines have been recovered from the accused. Further action is being taken by registering a case against the accused. According to the information, the STF team had received information that a large quantity of arms is going to be supplied in Rudrapur area. On the information, the STF team, taking along the Kotwali Rudrapur team, conducted a dense checking campaign late last night and on the information of the informer, raided the Baghwala area and detained a suspicious youth.
During the search, 8 automatic pistols and magazines were recovered from the accused. During interrogation, the accused revealed his name as Khajan Singh, son of Gurucharan Singh, resident of Baghwala, Rudrapur police station. The accused said that he had previously been jailed for robbery and smuggling of illegal weapons. For the past few years, he and his associates have been procuring weapons from a person named Sartaj from Bahranpur, Madhya Pradesh, who is a big smuggler of illegal weapons in Madhya Pradesh. The accused said that he and his associates have also supplied such semi-automatic pistols to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the past. During interrogation, the accused has revealed many names.
For some time, information was being received that in view of the upcoming Panchayat elections, illegal weapons can be smuggled from outside states. In this regard, special instructions were given to the STF teams to keep a watch in their respective areas. Along with this, the state STF kept a close watch on the criminals who had previously gone to jail or came to light for being involved in smuggling of illegal weapons. Late last night, the Kumaon unit, along with the Rudrapur Kotwali police, arrested a smuggler. 8 automatic pistols and magazines have been recovered from the accused. The accused has revealed many names. The matter is being investigated.
